In 1930, Helen Fallis McGreevy, a Native American Sioux Indian, member of the Lower Brule tribe of South Dakota, and Emmett McGreevy, Sr., her husband, established Mid West Meat Company in an existing cold storage building in industrial downtown Wichita. Today the company is known as McGreevy's Mid West Meat Company, located at 230 N. West St., in Wichita.

In the beginning the company handled carcass beef and pork along with some processing for area grocery stores. Later, further processing of roasts and portion cuts of beef, pork and lamb, plus ground beef production and distribution of poultry, hams, cheese, sausage, and provisions became the company focus for the hotel, restaurant, and institutions industry, just as it is today. Bar NoneTM cooked products, including taco meats, chili, sloppy joe mixes, refried beans and sauces are also produced for multi-state distrubution at this Wichita location, under the Bar None label and many private label brands.
The founding couple, now deceased, had expanded the company, aided by several of their ten children, some starting work during their early school years and continuing through adult years. Today all but one have moved on or retired from the day-to day operation, leaving one younger brother to continue the family business. As president and operating manager, Timothy McGreevy has an eye to future company expansion while always honoring his heritage.
